In the early 1800's, five brothers spread out from North Carolina,
which had been the family point of entry to this country from
Ireland. They settled in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee,
and Mississippi. William Anderson Shannon, who settled in Tippah
County, west of Tiplersville, MS, and his brother Crockett went to the
central, or southern part of the state.
William Anderson Shannon and his wife Cynthia Brown had eight children.
John C, Joe, Robert Jackson, Benjamin, Elizabeth Graham, Paralee Archer,
Mary Sasser, and Susa Lakey.
William Died in 1872, at the age of 52. A few years later his wife
died with what the doctors thought to be hydrophobia, even
though, to their knowledge, a rabid animal had not bitten her.
It was a horrible death, as she had to be tied to her bed and
was in terrible pain for days.
All of the children moved elsewhere except Robert Jackson who
was born in 1848 and died in 1933.
