William, 71, and his wife, Betty Mae Shannon, 58, died within a few hours of each other Wednesday morning at Hillhaven Convalescent Center in Raleigh, where they were residents. William, a retired foreman for Kaiser Aluminum, died at 7 a.m. of congestive heart failure. Mrs. Shannon died at 10 a.m. of cancer. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington with burial in Woodhaven Memory Gardens. They were members of Ardmore Baptist Church.
William leaves two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn McCoy of Santa Rosa, Calif. and Mrs. Patricia Fleming; a son, William Phillip Shannon of Arizona; two sisters, MRs. Wade Pierce of Memphis and Mrs. Ruby Lucas of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a brother, Paul Shannon of MS, eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
